Reminisce Kits now available at WLPL

In conjunction with Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, the West Lafayette Public Library, through a grant from Duke Energy Foundation, now offers Reminisce Kits available to the community. Reminisce Kits offer older adults and their families, friends and caregivers the opportunity to initiate and share discussion on familiar subjects and experiences such as Farm Life, Seashore, Birds and more.

Through personal reminiscing, older adults with memory impairment can experience an elevated mood and a feeling of empowerment, along with the positive effects from the support and attention of a caregiver or family member.

West Lafayette Public Library’s Reminisce Kits contain multi-sensory items including a theme-based CD, books, puzzles and tactile objects to facilitate conversation and foster engagement.

Greater Lafayette community members may check out Reminisce Kits for three weeks with a current West Lafayette Public Library card. For more information, contact the Library at (765) 743-2261.

No More Overdue Fines at WLPL

Books and other items checked out from the West Lafayette Public Library will be accepted back at the West Lafayette Library with no overdue fines charged beginning January 1, 2018.

Remaining the same:

  • All checked out items will be due on their return-due date – three weeks/one week as now.
  • Materials checked out can be renewed for additional checked-out time, a practice we will continue to encourage.
  • To encourage folks to return checked out materials in a timely manner so that other patrons can check them out as well, we will continue to enforce the practice of suspending a patron’s checkout privileges if checked-out materials are overdue by more than a month or so. Once the overdue materials are returned checkout privileges will be automatically turned back on.
  • All of these changes/continued practices work with the circulation parameters of the Evergreen Indiana library consortium – the West Lafayette Public Library continues as an active member.
